2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup

Monaghan continued their winning start to 2026 with a 1-17 to 3-8 win against Fermanagh on Sunday last in Castleblayney and finished top of Section B in the McKenna Cup and have qualified for the Semi Final. This Wednesday 14th January Monaghan are playing Tyrone at home in Inniskeen in the Semi Final of the McKenna Cup at 7:30pm. Please note that there are no matchday sales at the venue. You can purchase your tickets for the games in McMahons Centra Scotstown. We wish the team and management the very best. The Scotstown players on the panel are having a well deserved break until the National League commences at the end of the month.

Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – New Jackpot €11,000

You can register for 2026 Membership on our Clubspot app. Please go to Menu, select Memberships, Buy Membership and select your appropriate option. Please note all players, underage and adult should now be registered. 2025 registration has expired. All players must be registered before commencing training, also for s&c sessions in the gym.

Our Condolences

It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Eddie McKenna (Hughie).

We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his son Dara (Emer) and daughter Grainne (Barry Mc Namee); his much-loved grandchildren, Sheenagh, Caolán, Aoife, Aoibheann, Niall and Darren; his brothers, sisters, bothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. 

Eddie was a lifelong supporter of our club and a distinguished community person, who was actively involved in the current redevelopment of St. Mary’s Hall Urbleshanny, where he was chairman of the committee. Last month, Eddie was safely taxiing patrons from the Scotstown complex after the Ulster final night celebrations, a recent example of the immense community work Eddie devoted, and he will be greatly missed by everyone in the community and beyond.

May Eddie’s gentle soul Rest In Peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Health and Wellbeing

Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch.

Couch to 5km! 

Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 1 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! 

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. If you missed it, don’t worry — it’s not too late to join, and all are very welcome to come along again next Sunday.

Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026

The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together.

Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details. 

Card Playing night returns for winter 2025 / 2026

Scotstown GAA are inviting everyone to come along and play Cards in the Scotstown complex this Friday 16th January at 8:00pm for all ages, especially young people who want to learn the game of 45, there will be card players there on the night to guide and help, fun night ahead don’t let our traditional card games become a thing of the past.

Senior Men Scotstown opened their 2026 Loughman Sports Senior League campaign at Páirc Mhuire on Saturday evening last against Corduff, producing a strong and composed performance to claim the first win of the season. The Blues started brightly, settling quickly into the game and taking control of possession. Early scores helped Scotstown build momentum, and the team carried that sharpness throughout the first half, moving the ball well and keeping the scoreboard ticking. Corduff responded strongly with spells of pressure, but Scotstown’s defence stood firm, turning over key attacks and launching several well-worked counter-moves leading 0-10 to 1-3. As the second half progressed, the home side continued to push on, adding important scores to keep daylight between the teams. In the closing stages, Scotstown managed the game intelligently, maintaining their lead and seeing out the contest with confidence to secure a deserved opening-round victory. A positive start to the league campaign, with plenty of encouraging signs across the pitch. Final score of 0-15 to 1-6. The senior men next play Inniskeen away on Sunday 26 th April at 3pm continuing the league series of competitive clashes both home and away throughout April, May, June and early July. Junior Men Scotstown’s Junior Men put in a committed effort to Currin (played in Kilmore), but Currin proved the stronger team on the day, finishing out 4–15 to 3–7 in the opening round of the 2026 Junior Football League. Currin started sharply and built an early lead, but Scotstown responded well with a well-taken goal to keep themselves in the contest. The first half was competitive, with both sides trading scores, but Currin’s ability to convert chances gave them the advantage at the break. In the second half, Scotstown battled hard and struck for two more goals, showing great determination and work rate throughout the field. Currin, however, remained clinical in front of the posts, adding key scores that kept them in control as the game entered the final stages. Despite the result, the Scotstown men showed plenty of fight, created good scoring chances, and demonstrated strong teamwork in their first outing of the season. There’s lots to build on as the league campaign continues. The Juniors will continue their campaign at home to Oram on Saturday 25th April at 7pm, with four home games in total at Páirc Mhuire across the league. The team showed great spirit and teamwork throughout. They now travel to Inniskeen next Sunday, 26th April, 7 pm for Round 2. Minor Football – Round 1 Preview The Minor Boys host Magheracloone this Monday, 13th April, 7:15 pm in Kilmore for Round 3 of the Division 1 League. Despite a strong performance against Castleblayney last week, the minors lost 3-11 to 1-8 and the team will look to build on their progress and secure their first win of the campaign. Division 1 (A) – A fine win away to Magheracloone (34 to 18) sees the A team host Donaghmoyne on Thursday, 23 April, 7:15 pm in Scotstown. Division 3 (B) – The B team face Latton O’Rahilly at home on Friday, 24 April, 7:15 pm after a defeat to Sean McDermotts. Ladies Football Scotstown’s Senior Ladies opened their 2026 league campaign on Sunday morning at Páirc Mhuire, producing a strong and spirited performance in a highly competitive contest against Magheracloone. The game was tight throughout, with both sides enjoying periods of momentum and creating plenty of scoring chances. Scotstown struck for three well-worked goals, showing sharp movement and excellent finishing in the forward line. Magheracloone, however, were consistent and accurate with their point-taking, keeping the scoreboard ticking and edging ahead as the game entered the final stages. Despite pushing hard right to the final whistle and creating late opportunities, Scotstown were unable to close the gap, with Magheracloone holding on for a narrow win. A committed display from the team with lots of positives to take into the next round. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes – 20/01/2026 Monaghan GAA 2025 Awards Night On Saturday night last, the Monaghan GAA Annual Awards 2025 took place in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan. This result saw Monaghan finish top of Section B and qualify for the McKenna Cup Final, which took place on Saturday last against Donegal in Omagh. While it ended in disappointment with a 2-17 to 0-11 defeat , well done to the team and management on reaching the final and producing a very impressive run throughout the competition.
