Ulster Senior Championship Final – Monaghan v Armagh – This Sunday 4:15pm, Clones
Monaghan’s brave run to the Ulster Senior Football Championship Final came to an end on Sunday afternoon in Clones, where Armagh claimed the title after extra time on a 2-28 to 0-25 scoreline. Monaghan matched Armagh for long spells in a hugely committed and entertaining contest, but the Orchard County finished the stronger in extra time to secure their first Ulster title since 2008.
While the result did not go Monaghan’s way, there was immense pride in Scotstown’s strong representation throughout the county panel and matchday team. Rory, Ryan, Mícheál, Conor, Jack and Max have all played important roles in Monaghan’s final, including fine scores by Conor (0-4); Jack (0-3, 1 x two pointer); Rory (0-2, two pointer free); Ryan (0-1); Mícheál (0-1); and the club is immensely proud of their efforts in helping the county reach the provincial decider, with Monaghan’s comeback from 7 points down in the second half inspired by Jack’s introduction . Their overall contribution to another memorable championship run for Monaghan reflects great credit on themselves, their families and the club. Monaghan now go into the All Ireland Championship series in Round 1, with home advantage against May on the weekend of the 30th May. You can get your tickets for that game in McMahon Centra Scotstown.
Monaghan v Mayo – All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
Monaghan are next in action in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship when they face Mayo in Round 1 on the weekend of 30/31 May, with full fixture details to be confirmed shortly. Tickets for the game will be available shortly and can be purchased in McMahon’s Centra, Scotstown. Supporters are encouraged to keep an eye on official channels for confirmation of on-sale times and match details.
Minor Ulster Championship Quarter Final
Hard luck to the Monaghan Minor team and management, who were narrowly defeated by Donegal on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-15 on Saturday. It was a hugely competitive contest and a very spirited performance, with the side pushing all the way in a game that could have gone either way. We are especially proud of our Scotstown representatives Darragh Feeney, Seán Mac Cinna, and Chilav Malaya for their involvement on the provincial stage, and they can all take great credit from their efforts throughout the campaign.
Ulster Ladies Senior Championship – Ulster final.
Monaghan senior ladies and management put in a tremendous effort in the Ulster final, where they were narrowly beaten by Cavan after extra time on a scoreline of 4-13 to 1-20. It was a hugely committed performance from Monaghan in a dramatic and high-scoring contest, and they can take great credit from the manner in which they battled throughout. Scotstown’s representatives, players Éabha Sherry and Casey Treanor, management team members including Edel Corrigan and Charlene Sherry played their part in a strong county campaign, and the club extends its congratulations to all involved on reaching the provincial decider.
Under 14 Monaghan Girls All Ireland Semi
Best of luck to the Monaghan Under 14 girls and management as they prepare for their All-Ireland semi-final against Down this Saturday 23rd May at 1:00pm in St Paul’s GAA, Lurgan. It is another amazing achievement for the team and management to reach this stage of the competition, and everyone in Scotstown is delighted to see our club players involved on such a big day. We wish them every success as they continue their campaign and look forward to hopefully seeing them produce another strong performance on the national stage, and everyone in Scotstown is delighted to see our girls involved, captain Aoife McArdle, Cayla McGinnity, Aoibheann Marin, Katie Mullen, and Cassie Woods in such a strong county panel.
