An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 25/05/2026 Senior Men Our Senior Men were narrowly beaten away by a strong Cremartin side on Saturday evening in Round 5 of the Loughman Sports Senior League, with the home side edging the contest on a 1-18 to 0-20 scoreline. Scotstown trailed by four at the break, 0-14 to 0-10, but produced a strong second-half response and battled all the way to the finish in a closely fought game. It was a spirited display from the lads, who showed plenty of determination to get themselves back into contention, but Cremartin held on for the win in an exciting finale. Scotstown will look to take the positives from the performance as attention now turns to the next round of the league campaign. Junior Men Our Junior Men shared the spoils away to Blackhill on Saturday evening in Round 5 of the Eurotech Junior League, with the sides finishing level on 2-8 to 1-11. Scotstown made a strong start and were 2-7 to 0-7 ahead 17 minutes into the second half following good goals from play, but Blackhill made a strong comeback and found a goal from a penalty as the contest ebbed and flowed towards the final moments. It was a lively and competitive game throughout, and credit to the lads for battling to the end to come away with a deserved draw on the road. The result leaves plenty to build on as the team now turns its attention to the next round of the league campaign. The team will now look to regroup and build on the performance as they turn their attention to the next round against Toome at home on Friday 5th June at 7:00pm in Round 6, where they will aim to advance their good form. On Tuesday evening they recorded a superb 6-8 to 5-7 away win over Clontibret in Round 4, showing great character and teamwork throughout. They were back in action at home on Friday evening, where Castleblayney took the points on a 2-18 to 3-8 scoreline. With the approaching leaving cert exams, next fixture is towards the end of June with an away fixture against Magheracloone on Monday 29 June at 8:00pm. We wish all those of our minors taking the leaving cert the very best in their exams. U16 Boys The U16 A side had no game during the last week and are next at home to Inniskeen on Thursday 28 May at 7:30pm in Round 7. Our U16 B team had an excellent 3-10 to 2-11 home win over Cremartin on Friday evening in Round 6 and now travel to St Patrick’s on Friday 29 May at 7:30pm. Ladies Football Senior Ladies – Monaghan Senior League & Reserve League Well done to our Senior Ladies, who produced an excellent away performance to defeat a strong Emmet Óg side on Sunday morning in Round 5 of the Reserve League, winning on a 2-5 to 1-7 scoreline. This was a hard-earned result on the road against tough opposition, with the team showing great composure, work-rate and determination throughout. It was a valuable win and a very encouraging display from the players and management as the league campaign continues. Attention now turns to Round 6, when Scotstown host O’Neill Shamrock on Sunday 31st May at 10:00am. Junior Ladies – Monaghan Junior League & Reserve League Junior Ladies - Reserve League Division 3 St. Mary’s Park provided the perfect setting on Saturday evening, with ideal conditions for football. The opening half was a keenly contested with both teams moving the ball well in front of good home support. Best for Scotstown were Claire Trappe, Briana Mac Cinna, Caoimhe Kelly, Lisa Sherlock and Aoife Prunty. While Jenny Freeman, Michaela Newell and Ruth Douglas were most prominent for the visitors. Scotstown held a slender one-point lead as the sides headed for the break, 1-9 to 1-8. The home team took the game to Clones from the restart. Kelly and Prunty led a spirited surge from midfield, feeding Trappe, Ellie Graham and Áine Mc Elwain who kept the scoreboard ticking. At the back Mary Murphy, Eleanor Murphy, Mac Cinna and Sherlock stood firm, marshalling their lines with composure under pressure from Clones’ Ella Kierans and Maeve Gibson. Sorcha Deery settled quickly when introduced to bag an impressive brace of goals. As the half progressed, Melissa Mulligan, Áine Eannetta and Shannon Boylan grew into the game. Eibhlin Clerkin showed great composure and moved the ball well in the forward line. A second home victory sees Scotstown go into the last two rounds with an outside chance of making a semi final. Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project, which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During 2025, the club held a number of wellbeing events, including a charity fun walk on St Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil Day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative, which took place during May and June. In August, the club hosted post-Blessing of the Graves refreshments in the complex. In September, Scotstown GAA was awarded Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition Programme for 2025, and the card nights returned. Make Your Céilí also returned during the winter. More recent events in early 2026 included Daffodil Day, the G4MO Fun Run and Walk, and the start of the Blackwater All Stars sessions. The club also supported the FTD Brothers’ marathon run through the parish this month, and Scotstown GAA have been chosen to feature in a demential awareness video (see next note). Dementia Awareness Day Scotstown GAA was honoured to be chosen to feature in a special dementia awareness video, filmed at our grounds on Thursday last, as part of a partnership involving the GAA, Croke Park and the HSE’s Dementia: Understand Together campaign. The finished piece will be shown at half-time during the All-Ireland Football Semi-Final in Croke Park on 12 July and will also be shared across GAA and HSE social media channels before being made available to clubs and counties nationwide. Filming during the day included shots around the club, various scenes in Kilmore Hub, family photo moments in the bar, a card game involving older and younger players, and training and playing footage with our minors and senior teams. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 11/05/2026 Senior Men Scotstown claimed a hard-earned victory over Castleblayney in Round 3 of the Loughman Sports Senior League, winning out on a 1-13 to 1-12 scoreline after a keenly contested game. Castleblayney led 0-4 to 0-3 after 10 minutes but Scotstown took advantage leading 0-8 to 0-5 by the 25th minute including a wonderful 2 pointer, before a well worked goal gave the Blues a 6 point lead. Castleblayney added more points to their tally in response but Scotstown led 1-9 to 0-9 at the interval. The second half remained tight throughout, with Scotstown pushing on to 1-10 to 0-9 early in the half before Castleblayney repeatedly narrowed the gap to within a score. Scotstown then showed good composure to see the game out and secure another valuable league win away from home. Next Fixture Scotstown now turn their attention to Round 4, when they host Clontibret at Páirc Mhuire on Saturday 16th May at 5:00pm. Men’s Reserves - Championship Our Men’s Reserve teams have began their respective Championship campaigns recently, with all three teams winning their preliminary‑rounds across the McKeown, O’Duffy and Crawley Cups. Our Junior 2B Reserves were in action on Wednesday evening in the Crawley Cup Preliminary Round at Páirc Mhuire, where Scotstown edged Éire Óg on a 1-13 to 1-12 scoreline in a closely fought contest. It was a valuable win for the group as they continue to build momentum in the early part of the season and progress to the quarter final of the championship where they face Aghabog at home on Saturday May 30th. Our Senior Reserves are against Latton in the quarter final of the O’Duffy Cup on Saturday May 30th at home, while our Junior 3B Reserves continue their McKeown Cup campaign away to Donaghmoyne in Round 1 this Wednesday 13th May at 7:30pm. Minor Boys Our Minor boys were in action away to Aughnamullen on Monday evening in Division 1 Round 6 of the Minor Football League, where Aughnamullen came out on top on a 2-20 to 1-11 scoreline. The team and management will look to respond positively when they travel to Carrickmacross on Monday 11 May at 7:30pm for Round 7.. U16 Boys The U16 panels had another busy week of fixtures across the three teams. Division 1 (A Team) Scotstown A were at home to Gaeil Triucha in Round 5 on Thursday evening last, with the visitors winning on a 2-15 to 2-5 scoreline. The boys battled well but came up short. Division 3 (B Team) The B team travelled to Carrickmacross Emmets on Friday evening for Round 5, where the home side came out on top by 4-9 to 3-3 with a fine win away from home. After a close 1st half, Carrickmacross pulled away. Attention will now turn to their next outing at home to Cremartin in Round 6 on Friday 22 May at 7:30pm. Division 4 (C Team) Our C team were away to O’Neill Emeralds in Doohamlet on Friday evening and were defeated, with the hosts being the stronger team on the night. The group will look to bounce back when they travel to Monaghan Harps for Round 6 on Thursday 21 May at 7:30pm. U14 Boys It was another busy and competitive weekend for the U14 boys, with two of the three teams turning in strong performances and plenty of positives to take into the next round of fixtures. The Division 5, B team continued their good form with a strong result against Monaghan Harps. The Division 7 C team also battled hard away to Monaghan Harps and showed plenty of determination throughout. The standout result of the weekend came from the Division 5 B team, who recorded a brilliant win over Monaghan Harps on a scoreline of 1-18 to 2-7. The Division 7 C team were defeated 4-7 to 0-10 by Monaghan Harps, but plenty of positives for the next round. Ladies Football Senior Ladies – Monaghan Senior League & Reserve League Our Senior Ladies recorded a hard-earned 1-7 to 1-6 victory over Latton on Sunday in a closely contested encounter. Latton made the brighter start and led by 1-1 to 0-0 after nine minutes, but Scotstown responded well through points from Alannah Corrigan, Ella McKenna and Megan Boylan to trail by just one at half-time, 1-2 to 0-4. Scotstown carried that momentum into the second half and gradually edged their way back into the game before a brilliant goal from Grace Kelly helped swing the contest in their favour. A late point from Megan Boylan proved decisive as Scotstown held on for a deserved one-point win. Well done to the team and management. Attention now turns to Round 5, when Scotstown travel to Emmet Óg on Sunday 24th May at 11:00am. Junior Ladies – Monaghan Junior League & Reserve League Brigid O Neills 7-14 Scotstown 1- 3 Pearse Park, Ballybay was the venue for our newly established Junior team’s third Reserve League game versus newly promoted seniors Brigid O'Neills on Saturday evening. This game had been viewed as a challenging assignment vs last year’s Ulster Intermediate finalists and so it came to pass. Scotstown took to the field short seven of the team from the previous round win vs Sean Mc Dermotts. Abigail Finnegan won referee Noel Callan’s throw-in, Scotstown opened the scoring and made the early running. Mary Murphy, Briana Mac Cinna, Isobel Waddington, Finnegan and Saorlaith Groarke settled best early on and took the game to Brigids. On her first start, Natasha Beggan was the standout player in the forward line while Rhia Nar impressed from the bench. Both teams traded scores and wides in an opening period of free flowing football. A long range effort from Lisa Sherlock found the Brigid's net for the first goal of the game. Sherlock's goal sparked a strong reaction with Megan Millar leading the home forward line in pegging back the Scotstown lead to go in at halftime leading 3-06 to 1-02. Shauna Mc Dwyer was impressive in defence for Scotstown when introduced early in the second half before the home team took control with Machailla Mc Cabe entering the fray up front. A succession of Brigid’s scores ended the game as a contest midway through the half. Scotstown elected to give game time to all players present to further this team’s development, Laura Holohan a notable introduction from the bench. Our Juniors’ next outing in the Reserve League is at home vs Clones on Saturday, May 23rd. Minor Girls Our Minor Girls Division 1 side were in action away to Castleblayney on Thursday evening last and recorded a fine 4-12 to 5-5 win in Round 3. The Division 3 fixture away to Corduff on Friday evening was cancelled as Corduff conceded. Attention now turns to Round 4, with Division 1 at home to Emmet Óg on Thursday 21 May at 7:00pm and Division 3 at home to Clones on Friday 22 May at 7:00pm. U16 Girls The U16 Division 1 girls had no games in the past week. Next fixture: Sean McDermotts v Scotstown — Monday 11 May, 7:00pm (U16 Division 1, away). The team travel to Sean McDermotts for Round 3 and will aim to carry the confidence from the Inniskeen win into this next league outing. U12 Girls Our U12 Girls have started their Round Robin league competitions strongly, with two teams competing this season — one in Division 1 North and one in Division 3 North. In Round 1, the Division 1 North team recorded an excellent 5-4 to 0-2 win over Emyvale, while the Division 3 North side also got off to a winning start with a fine 5-4 to 1-3 victory over Truagh. Comhghairdeas Rory — GAA Player of the Week! Massive congratulations to Rory Beggan, who has been voted GAA Footballer of the Week after his incredible display in Monaghan GAA dramatic Ulster Semi Final win over Derry. Rory topped the national vote with 5,966 votes, finishing well ahead of the other nominees — a testament to how widely his performance was admired. Rory was at the heart of everything in one of the most dramatic championship games in recent memory. He finished with three two pointers, including the amazing last gasp final kick winner from 47 metres, and played a crucial role in Micheál Bannigan’s goal. His leadership was just as important as his scoring. In the chaotic closing moments of normal time — with the hooter sounded, confusion on the sideline, and Derry fans spilling onto the pitch — Rory was the one who challenged the referee, insisting Monaghan were entitled to take the sideline ball. That intervention proved vital, as Jack McCarron’s wonderful two pointer sent the game to extra time. From start to finish, Rory delivered a performance of composure, bravery, and sheer class — the kind of display that inspires a team and lifts a county. Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project, which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During 2025, the club held a number of wellbeing events, including a charity fun walk on St Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil Day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative, which took place during May and June. In August, the club hosted post-Blessing of the Graves refreshments in the complex. In September, Scotstown GAA was awarded Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition Programme for 2025, and the card nights returned. Make Your Céilí also returned during the winter. More recent events in early 2026 included Daffodil Day, the G4MO Fun Run and Walk, and the start of the Blackwater All Stars sessions. The club also supported the FTD Brothers’ marathon run through the parish this month. Blackwater All Stars – Inclusive GAA Sessions Thanks to our Health and Wellbeing officer Abbie McCarey for the following report. GAA for all is going from strength to strength as we continue with our road show style sessions in Truagh, Emyvale and Scotstown GAA. These clubs together come under the name “Blackwater all stars” and stars they are. They most recently gave a fine display of their skills and talent at half time of the infamous ulster semi final decider between Derry and Monaghan. We’re sure it was their skills at half time which spurred the Monaghan players onto eventual victory! Training continues every Saturday morning at 10-11am. Saturday 16th May we will commence a 4 week block in Emyvale GAA. You don’t need to be affiliated with any club to participate and new players always welcome. We cater predominantly for players aged 5-15 years old. Any child who would like to try out our additional need training is welcome to come along with a parent or guardian and can bring along a sibling too to help with the transition.
