Our Blues in County Football Action
Allianz Division 1 National Football League
The Monaghan County Senior football team secured their Division 1 status for next year after an exciting 2-14 to 1-17 draw against a dogged Meath side in Clones on Sunday last. Mayo lost their game against Tyrone and were relegated, guaranteeing Monaghan safety from the drop. Well done to all our Scotstown men on the panel during the Division 1 campaign this year in a difficult group.
2020 Ulster GAA Senior Football Championship Preliminary Round
In a highly unusual situation, given the year we are in, the All Ireland Championship series commences a week after the last round of the National League. Monaghan play Cavan in Clones this Saturday 31st October at 1:15pm. The winners play Antrim 1 week later. There is no back door system in this year’s All Ireland series. Seven of our Senior blues are involved in the panel. All the best to Rory Beggan, Shane Carey, Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes, Damian McArdle, Conor McCarthy and Ryan O'Toole; and the rest of the Monaghan team. Please note these inter-county games are behind closed doors as per the latest Level 5 restrictions and GAA guidelines.
Vision 2025 Household Survey
Vision 2025 is about developing a shared Vision for 2025. Scotstown GAA are in the process of developing a shared vision for the future of our parish called Vision 2025. This involves inviting everyone’s input into its development and to identify the needs of the parish. We want YOUR ideas on what should be in the development Plan. Now is the chance to give your input, which includes creating a facility in Kilmore that will serve the whole community. This can be done through a 5 minute survey online or on a hard copy. Please also watch our introduction video on Social Media and thanks to everyone involved in its production. The online survey link is https://www.scotstowngaa.ie/kilmore We will be also printing hard copies of the survey for manual entries for those who have no online access or prefer to fill out surveys this way. We will let you know shortly how these will be distributed.
Ciste
Ciste draw will take place this Saturday Night 31st October. Please see our social media platforms for the venue and time details. We are pleased to announce that you will be able to purchase your Ciste tickets in our local shops. There are tickets, envelopes and collection boxes in each of these shops; McAloons Knockatallon; McMahon Centra, Scotstown; McCarvilles Ballinode & Killylough. You can also purchase your Ciste tickets using the Scotstown Clubforce website and clicking on ‘buy event tickets’ link. First prize €1,000 and 5 prizes of €100 must be won. In total €18,000 in prize money is won every year!

Covid-19 Level 5 Restrictions
The GAA released new guidelines in anticipation of an increase in government restrictions to the Covid 19 pandemic. All club games at all levels and ages are suspended indefinitely. The Kilmore walking track remains open. Please note that our GAA indoor facilities including dressing rooms, club shop, social club, gyms etc. will remained CLOSED until further notice. This is in accordance with the GAA's Covid Advisory Group's guidelines. Whenever we are given the guidelines to enable us to give definitive dates of resumption of any of our activities and facilities, we will update you here and on our Clubforce app. Please adhere to government Level 5 and HSE guidelines, on reducing your travel to within 5km unless for essential purposes, washing your hands, keeping your distance and abide by the current restrictions. Thanks for your patience and understanding. The club is still here to help out in our community.
We are still here to help
We would like to reiterate and to continue our message that we are here to help, particularly as we are now in Level 5. In light of the ongoing concerns and impacts to our daily lives over Covid-19, Scotstown GAA would like to reassure those in our community that we are here to help. The health and wellbeing of our community is very important at this time and we can phone and have a chat with those that are alone or vulnerable check if they need anything, groceries, medicines, a friendly voice and reassuring chat can help.
If you are living away from the parish and have relatives that may need a hand getting in medicines or shopping or simply checking in with them, contact Cormac on 087 650 4979 or any committee member. Please private message on the Scotstown GAA Facebook page with any other suggestions on how we can help over the next while. We will keep you updated on our Facebook page and we are and will look out for each other. There are Tydavnet Parish Community Health and Wellbeing leaflet of crucial local numbers and contact information for people in our community. These leaflets are going out through the local shops, churches etc. Many thanks to all those involved.
As well as our physical health, our emotional wellbeing and mental health is also highly important. In these current circumstances, it is important to remember that the community supports and services are still operating. Your GP is your first point of contact in relation to both physical and mental health needs. If you, or someone you know is in crisis, contact your GP or Doc on Call on 1850 777 911, or if you are really concerned go to the Emergency Department in Cavan General Hospital. Kilmore track remains open
The Kilmore walking track remains open. However with Level 5 restrictions it is only available for use to those within 5km / 3 miles. Please adhere to social distancing, the one way walk system and keep within members of your household bubble while walking. Thanks.

Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km! Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 3 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026 The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together. Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details. Well done also to Gráinne McElwain for MC duties on the evening. 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their strong run in the Dr. McKenna Cup with an exciting 1-15 to 2-10 semi-final victory over Tyrone on Wednesday evening last in Inniskeen. This result saw Monaghan finish top of Section B and qualify for the McKenna Cup Final, which took place on Saturday last against Donegal in Omagh. While it ended in disappointment with a 2-17 to 0-11 defeat , well done to the team and management on reaching the final and producing a very impressive run throughout the competition. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 13/01/2026 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their winning start to 2026 with a 1-17 to 3-8 win against Fermanagh on Sunday last in Castleblayney and finished top of Section B in the McKenna Cup and have qualified for the Semi Final. This Wednesday 14th January Monaghan are playing Tyrone at home in Inniskeen in the Semi Final of the McKenna Cup at 7:30pm. Please note that there are no matchday sales at the venue. You can purchase your tickets for the games in McMahons Centra Scotstown. We wish the team and management the very best. Our Condolences It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Eddie McKenna (Hughie). We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his son Dara (Emer) and daughter Grainne (Barry Mc Namee); his much-loved grandchildren, Sheenagh, Caolán, Aoife, Aoibheann, Niall and Darren; his brothers, sisters, bothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. Eddie was a lifelong supporter of our club and a distinguished community person, who was actively involved in the current redevelopment of St. Mary’s Hall Urbleshanny, where he was chairman of the committee. Last month, Eddie was safely taxiing patrons from the Scotstown complex after the Ulster final night celebrations, a recent example of the immense community work Eddie devoted, and he will be greatly missed by everyone in the community and beyond. Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km! Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 1 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026 The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together. Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details. Card Playing night returns for winter 2025 / 2026 Scotstown GAA are inviting everyone to come along and play Cards in the Scotstown complex this Friday 16th January at 8:00pm for all ages, especially young people who want to learn the game of 45, there will be card players there on the night to guide and help, fun night ahead don’t let our traditional card games become a thing of the past.
