Health and Wellbeing
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.
Mental Health Awareness
While summer and lots of football lift our spirits and emotional wellbeing, mental health issues and trauma can remain, and this can still be a difficult time for many people for several reasons. Please see our Social Media posts for helpful numbers and contacts. There is help out there for those who are struggling during this time. Considerably linked to mental health is the need to raise awareness of the ongoing struggles against violence including domestic violence, and to breakdown the stigma victims have in seeking help and support. Help and support is there for those suffering under physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
Organisations and contact numbers for both women and men are listed below and contact numbers for local mental health supports are featured on the Social Media posts, and has stated by the Ulster GAA last week “we encourage and support anyone who has been a victim of such abuse not to suffer in silence but to avail of the statutory and voluntary support services that are available in the community.”

Our Condolences It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Eddie McKenna (Hughie). We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his son Dara (Emer) and daughter Grainne (Barry Mc Namee); his much-loved grandchildren, Sheenagh, Caolán, Aoife, Aoibheann, Niall and Darren; his brothers, sisters, bothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. Eddie was a lifelong supporter of our club and a distinguished community person, who was actively involved in the current redevelopment of St. Mary’s Hall Urbleshanny, where he was chairman of the committee. Last month, Eddie was safely taxiing patrons from the Scotstown complex after the Ulster final night celebrations, a recent example of the immense community work Eddie devoted, and he will be greatly missed by everyone in the community and beyond. May Eddie’s gentle soul Rest In Peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
