Our Blues Competitive Games in the past week

Under 14s

The Under 14 Scotstown boy’s A team played Monaghan Harps away in Round 5 of the Under 14 League Competition Division 1 on Saturday last. Well done in their 0-17 to 1-9 win. They next play Donaghmoyne at home in Round 6 of the Under 14 League Competition Division 1this Sunday 26th May at 11:00am. The Under 14 Scotstown boy’s B team had no games in the past week. The U14 Scotstown C team next play Monaghan Harps away in Round 6 of the Under 14 League Competition Division 5B on Sunday 26th May at 12:30pm.

Under 16s

Well done to the Under 16 boys A team in their win against Tyholland away on Thursday of last week in Round 1 of the Under 16 Division 1 League Shield. The Under 16 boys A team next play Monaghan Harps at home this Thursday 23rd May in Round 2 of the Under 16 Division 1 League Shield at 7:30pm. Hard luck to our Under 16 boys B team in their narrow 3-11 to 4-7 defeat against Aughnamullen at home in Round 8 of the Under 16 Division 5A League on Wednesday of last week. They next play Magheracloone away in Round 9 of the Under 16 Division 5A League on Wednesday May 22nd at 7:30pm.

Minors

Our Minor A team played Monaghan Harps in Round 1 of the Minor Division 1 League on Tuesday of last week. Hard luck in their narrow 3-11 to 2-13 defeat. They next play Emyvale away in Round 7 of the Minor Division 1 League on Tuesday May 21st at 7:30pm.

Our Minor B team played Aughnamullen at home in Round 1 of the Minor Division 5 League on Friday of last week. Well done in their 5-16 to 3-6 win. The Minor B team next play Monaghan Harps at home in Round 4 of the Minor Division 5 League on Tuesday 28th May at 7:30pm.

Senior Men

Our Senior men had no games in the past week. They next play Ballybay at home in Round 45 of the Senior League this Saturday May 25th at 7:00pm. 

Junior Men

Our Junior men had no games in the past week. They next play Rockcorry away in Round 5 of the Junior League this Saturday 25th May at 4:00pm. 

Senior Division 1A Reserves

Our Senior Reserves Round 5 game against Inniskeen at home scheduled for Friday of last week was cancelled as Inniskeen conceded. They next play Donaghmoyne at home in Round 6 of the Reserve League Division 1A on Friday 31st May at 8:00pm.

Junior Division 3A Reserves

Our Junior 3A Reserves had no games in the past week. The Junior Division 3A Reserves next play Rockcorry at home on Sunday 2nd June at 12:00pm in Round 6 of the Reserve League Division 3A.

Junior Division 3B Reserves

Our Junior 3B Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Inniskeen away in Round 4 of the Reserve League Football Division 3B this Sunday 26th May at 2:00pm.

Senior Ladies

The Scotstown senior ladies had no games in the past week. They next play Castleblayney away this Sunday 26th May at 11:00am in Round 5 of the LGFA Senior League Division 1.

Under 18 Minor Girls

The Scotstown minor girls had no games in the past week. They next play Magheracloone at home in Round 4 of the LGFA Under 18 Division 1 this Thursday 23rd May at 7:15pm.

Under 16 Girls

Well done to the Under 16 girls A team who defeated O’Neill Shamrocks away in Round 4 of the LGFA Under 16 Division 1 on Monday last. They next play Brigid O’Neills in Round 5 of the LGFA Under 16 Division 1 on Monday 17th June at 7:15pm. The Under 16 girls B team had no games in the past week. The Under 16 girls B team next play Aughnamullen away in Round 4 of the LGFA Under 16 Division 2 on Tuesday 21st May at 7:00pm.

Under 14 Girls

The Under 14 girls team had no games in the past week. They next play Brigid O’Neills away in Round 4 of the LGFA Under 14 Division 1 on Monday 27th May at 6:45pm.

Under 12 Girls

The Under 12 girls A Team next play Eire Og away in Round 3 of the LGFA Under 12 Round Robin Group 1 North on Wednesday 22nd May at 6:45pm. The Under 12 girls B team play Aghabog away in Round 3 of the LGFA Under 12 Round Robin Group 2 North on Friday 24th  May at 6:45pm.

All Ireland Senior Football – Kerry 0-24 Monaghan 1-11

The Monaghan senior football team travelled to Killarney for the opening game of the All Ireland Group stages against the Munster champions. Hard luck to Rory, Conor, Micheal, Ryan and the rest of the team and management in their 0-24 to 1-11 defeat against a strong Kerry side. Monaghan scorers included fine points by Rory Beggan (0-1 from free); Ryan O’Toole (0-1 from free); and Conor McCarthy (0-1 from play). Monaghan have been drawn in Group 4 along with Kerry, Meath and Louth. Monaghan’s second group game will be on the weekend of the 1st June at home to Louth. We wish our Blues on the panel, and the rest of the team and management the very best. You can get your tickets in McMahons Centra Scotstown.

All Ireland Championship Tickets

You can purchase your tickets for the Round 2 Monaghan v Louth All Ireland Group stages game in Killarney (weekend of 1st June) in McMahon’s Centra Scotstown shop through the Ticketmaster system.

LGFA Ulster Ladies Intermediate Championship Final – Monaghan 0-14 Down 2-9

The Monaghan Ladies qualified for the LGFA Ulster Intermediate Championship final where they faced Down in Clones on Sunday last. The Ladies put in a tremendous second half performance to reduce a 10 point deficit to the narrowest of margins going to injury time and were unfortunate not to level the game. Well done to our players on the panel, Casey Treanor, Megan Boylan, Eabha Sherry, Hannah Sherlock, Celine Nally, Katie McCaffery and Katie Sherlock, and the rest of the team and management including Edel Corrigan and Charlene Sherry on reaching the Ulster Final, and to Eabha Sherry for scoring 3 brilliant points in the final.  

LGFA Monaghan Under 14 All Ireland Bronze Semi Final

The Under 14 Monaghan girls have qualified for the All Ireland Bronze Semi Final which will take place this Saturday 25th May at 1:00pm in Lurgan against Antrim. We wish our players on the panel, Nadine Boylan, Serena Boylan and Mia Corrigan, and the rest of the team and management, the very best.

St. Louis Monaghan Under 14 Schools Championship

A massive congratulations to St Louis Monaghan U14 girls and all the Scotstown girls on the panel who won the U14 Ulster schools championship. Well done to Katelyn Foy who was awarded player of the match in the St Louis Monaghan win.

Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €18,700!!

There are tickets, envelopes and collection boxes in each of these shops; McMahon Centra, Scotstown; XL Ballinode & Killylough, and McAloon’s Knockatallon. You can also purchase your Ciste tickets using the Scotstown Clubforce website and clicking on ‘buy event tickets’ link. First prize €1,000 and 5 prizes of €100 must be won. In total €18,000 in prize money is won every year!

There are size guides on the website (please see link in comment section below). You can still get orders via the physical club shop between 7pm and 8pm on every 2nd Friday evening as per normal. Health and Wellbeing

Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve.

During the winter months we renewed the Make a Ceili initiative which was launched before Christmas. Earlier in January / February saw the start of the Operation Transformation walk, the Scotstown Ladies hosted a Women’s Health talk, a drugs and Alcohol awareness workshop with our coaches, and we had several card nights throughout the winter. During May we are having a Hello How are you? Campaign.

Hello, How Are You? initiative

Hello, How Are You? is a national campaign about connection and engaging in open conversations about mental health. The Mental Health Ireland HELLO, How Are You? campaign aims to tackle the lack of connection or belonging that people experience by inspiring individuals to ask how others are feeling. This opens up a conversation to allow people to listen and encourage action by signposting to local supports and services. Please see our Social Media platforms on how we will link into this campaign which commenced on May 15th. This initiative will be ongoing over the next 2 weeks.

Scotstown River Project

The Scotstown river is one of only a few rivers in the country, and the only one in Co. Monaghan, that has a Blue Dot rating, meaning it has achieved the highest level of water quality. A new project will commence shortly to examine the rivers catchment area from it's source in Barrititoppy to Scotstown village. This will involve Tydavnet Group Water Scheme, Monaghan County Council, the Local Authorities Water Programme, Flynn Furney Consultants Clones and local schools. A number of public events will be held as part of the project, which will be launched in Tydavnet Village Community Centre on Tuesday May 21st from 2pm to 6pm. All are welcome to attend. Anyone with old memories or stories of the river or information that may be useful for the project can email jennifer@flynnfurney.com

Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km! Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 3 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026 The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together. Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes – 20/01/2026 Monaghan GAA 2025 Awards Night On Saturday night last, the Monaghan GAA Annual Awards 2025 took place in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan. A massive congratulations to all our Monaghan GAA 2025 award winners and to those who received county retirement presentations on the night: 2025 Award Winners Senior Footballer of the Year – Kieran Hughes Young Footballer of the Year – Max Maguire Minor Championship Referee of the Year – Andrew Mullen County Retirement Presentations Shane Carey Darren Hughes Kieran Hughes Thanks to Monaghan GAA and the Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan for hosting and organising another excellent awards night. Well done also to Gráinne McElwain for MC duties on the evening. 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their strong run in the Dr. McKenna Cup with an exciting 1-15 to 2-10 semi-final victory over Tyrone on Wednesday evening last in Inniskeen. This result saw Monaghan finish top of Section B and qualify for the McKenna Cup Final, which took place on Saturday last against Donegal in Omagh. While it ended in disappointment with a 2-17 to 0-11 defeat , well done to the team and management on reaching the final and producing a very impressive run throughout the competition. Division 1 National Football League – Round 1 Monaghan v Armagh – Sunday 25th January Intercounty football moves up another level this weekend as the National Football League gets underway following the McKenna Cup. Monaghan will compete in Division 1 this year after gaining promotion last season and winning the Division 2 League Final. The top tier includes Armagh, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Mayo and Roscommon . An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 13/01/2026 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their winning start to 2026 with a 1-17 to 3-8 win against Fermanagh on Sunday last in Castleblayney and finished top of Section B in the McKenna Cup and have qualified for the Semi Final. This Wednesday 14th January Monaghan are playing Tyrone at home in Inniskeen in the Semi Final of the McKenna Cup at 7:30pm. Please note that there are no matchday sales at the venue. You can purchase your tickets for the games in McMahons Centra Scotstown. We wish the team and management the very best. The Scotstown players on the panel are having a well deserved break until the National League commences at the end of the month. Our Condolences It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Eddie McKenna (Hughie). We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his son Dara (Emer) and daughter Grainne (Barry Mc Namee); his much-loved grandchildren, Sheenagh, Caolán, Aoife, Aoibheann, Niall and Darren; his brothers, sisters, bothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. Eddie was a lifelong supporter of our club and a distinguished community person, who was actively involved in the current redevelopment of St. Mary’s Hall Urbleshanny, where he was chairman of the committee. Last month, Eddie was safely taxiing patrons from the Scotstown complex after the Ulster final night celebrations, a recent example of the immense community work Eddie devoted, and he will be greatly missed by everyone in the community and beyond. Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km!
