Scotstown GAA’s “Win A Mobile Home” Competition Launched!
Last Friday we launched our Big Raffle competition. Monaghan GAA Convention awards
Congratulations to Damien McArdle for winning the Monaghan GAA Convention award for Senior Player of the year. Congratulations to Seamus McElwain for winning the Special Merit Award and congratulations to our Scor and Culture representatives and Pauline Rooney for winning the Best Contribution to Scor and Culture award. Well done to you all!
Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €5,200!!!
Thanks to everyone involved in our online lotto draw for a €5,100 jackpot on Wednesday 9th December! Please see our Social Media platforms for more details of the results. There was no winner of our draw on December 2nd. We had 3 Lucky Dip winners this week of €20 each. They were Brendan Connolly, Aidan Connolly and Frank McKenna. Congratulations!

GAA National Club Draw
The annual GAA National Club Draw is up in running and we are involved this year in the draw both nationally and at our own local level. There are many different fabulous prizes nationally including Cars, Concert tickets, Travel vouchers, Shopping vouchers, All Ireland packages & More!! Tickets are just €10 and all the funds go directly to Scotstown GAA. We have our own local prizes also for our lucky winners and these will be given out in time for Christmas! Our first draw is on 19th December and will be a Smart TV. Tickets will be distributed this week you can drop them back into a purpose made box in McMahons Centra shop. Club Shop Reopening and Times
Our club shop will re-open this Friday 11th, next Wednesday 16th and Friday 18th. The opening times are from 7:00pm to 8:00pm and please only 1 person in the shop at a time and wear a face mask as per Level 3 restrictions.
Michael Eoin McMahon
Michael Eoin’s four year tenure as Monaghan GAA County Chairman came to an end last week. We would like to congratulate Michael on his successful term as County Chairman which saw further advancement of the county teams with achievements and trophies and further development of Gaelic Games in the county to ensure a bright future. Off field, this has been a challenging year with the Covid 19 Pandemic, and Monaghan GAA have been hugely proactive in assisting the communities throughout the county. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him all the best in the future. Declan Flanagan from Cremartin Shamrocks GAA was elected the new Chairman of the County Board and we wish him all the best.

Covid-19 Restrictions at Level 3
We are now well into December and the government restrictions will remain at Level 3 for the foreseeable future. This means that all club games at all levels and ages are suspended indefinitely. The Kilmore walking track remains open. Please note that our GAA indoor facilities including dressing rooms, social club, gyms etc. will remained CLOSED until further notice. Please adhere to government Level 3 and HSE guidelines, on reducing your travel to within the County unless for essential purposes, washing your hands, keeping your distance and abide by the current restrictions. Thanks for your patience and understanding. The club is still here to help out in our community.
As well as our physical health, our emotional wellbeing and mental health is also highly important. In these current circumstances, it is important to remember that the community supports and services are still operating. Your GP is your first point of contact in relation to both physical and mental health needs. If you, or someone you know is in crisis, contact your GP or Doc on Call on 1850 777 911, or if you are really concerned go to the Emergency Department in Cavan General Hospital. Phone a Céilí
With the Level 3 restrictions in effect now, physically visiting people is still curtailed with limited mixing up to 2 households from 18th December. But we can still make contact with those we care about and / or are cocooning, living alone or vulnerable. They would really appreciate a phone call, letter or card just to say "I'm thinking about you, keep safe and stay strong." So please, Phone a Céilí, Write a Letter, Send a Card and keep in touch over the winter months and we are always here to help in anyway.

Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km! Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 3 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026 The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together. Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details. This result saw Monaghan finish top of Section B and qualify for the McKenna Cup Final, which took place on Saturday last against Donegal in Omagh. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 13/01/2026 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their winning start to 2026 with a 1-17 to 3-8 win against Fermanagh on Sunday last in Castleblayney and finished top of Section B in the McKenna Cup and have qualified for the Semi Final. This Wednesday 14th January Monaghan are playing Tyrone at home in Inniskeen in the Semi Final of the McKenna Cup at 7:30pm. Please note that there are no matchday sales at the venue. Our Condolences It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Eddie McKenna (Hughie). We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his son Dara (Emer) and daughter Grainne (Barry Mc Namee); his much-loved grandchildren, Sheenagh, Caolán, Aoife, Aoibheann, Niall and Darren; his brothers, sisters, bothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. Eddie was a lifelong supporter of our club and a distinguished community person, who was actively involved in the current redevelopment of St. Mary’s Hall Urbleshanny, where he was chairman of the committee. Last month, Eddie was safely taxiing patrons from the Scotstown complex after the Ulster final night celebrations, a recent example of the immense community work Eddie devoted, and he will be greatly missed by everyone in the community and beyond. Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km! Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 1 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026 The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together. Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details. Card Playing night returns for winter 2025 / 2026 Scotstown GAA are inviting everyone to come along and play Cards in the Scotstown complex this Friday 16th January at 8:00pm for all ages, especially young people who want to learn the game of 45, there will be card players there on the night to guide and help, fun night ahead don’t let our traditional card games become a thing of the past.
