Scotstown GAA Ulster Senior Championship quarter final against Erne Gaels this Saturday

The Scotstown GAA senior men begin their 2024 Ulster Senior Championship campaign against the Fermanagh Champions Erne Gaels in the quarter final in Enniskillen this Saturday November 16th at 5:00pm. We wish our Senior team and management the very best on Sunday and encourage as many of our supporters to travel to Brewster Park as possible to give our senior men your support. An Bhoth Abú! Please note this game was postponed and scheduled for Sunday last.

Ulster Minor Championship Draw

The draw has been made for the 2024 St Paul’s Tournament / Ulster Minor Football Tournament. The tournament is organised and hosted by St. Paul's GAC, Belfast. The County Minor club championships were held in each of the nine counties of Ulster. The nine county champions contest the Ulster Club Championship. Scotstown U18 team won the Monaghan GAA U18 Division 1 Club Championship and qualified for this tournament. All matches are knock-out. Scotstown have been drawn in the quarter final against Four Masters from County Donegal. The game is scheduled for Sunday 8th December at 1pm.  Full draw; Preliminary: Mayobridge GAC (Down) v Kingscourt Stars (Down); Quarter Final 1: St. Brigid’s (Antrim) v O’Donovan Rossa (Derry); Quarter Final 2: Irvinestown (Fermanagh) v Clann Eireann (Armagh); Quarter Final 3: Scotstown GAA v Four Masters; Quarter Final 4: Cookstown Rocks (Tyrone) v winners of Preliminary Round. Gaelic For Mothers and Others
The Gaelic for Mothers & Others have finished their outdoor training for this year. They are starting an indoor session in the Kilmore Hub on Thursdays at 7pm. This is a 6 week block costing €50. New members welcome. Come along and meet some new people and have a bit of fun while getting fit. Booking can be made through Glofox under Courses.

Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €6,600

In the November 6th draw, there was NO Jackpot winner. Numbers drawn on the night were 18, 19, 25, 26. There were NO match 3 w1nners. We had 5 Lucky-Dip winners, Rachel Stirrat, Eugene McKenna, Mary Mullen, Chloe McPhillips, and Bernie Scullion who win €20 each. Congratulations to all our winners! The Scotstown GAA online Lotto Draw takes place every Wednesday at 8:30pm with last entries at 8pm. The draw is conducted on-line and is fully automated using secure facilities. Health and Wellbeing

Scotstown GAA will continue this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. Early in the year we continued the Make a Ceili initiative which was launched before Christmas. In January / February saw the start of the Operation Transformation walk, the Scotstown Ladies hosted a Women’s Health talk, a drugs and Alcohol awareness workshop with our coaches, and we had several card nights during the first quarter. During May we had the Hello How are you? Campaign and in August, a community event after the Blessing of the Graves. We will update future initiatives here.

Scór agus Cultúr – Scór na nOg County Finals last weekend

The Scór na nÓg County Finals were held last weekend. Congratulations to our Tráth na gCeist teams who finished 1st and 3rd! Thanks to our Cultural Officer Paddy Sherlock for the following report.

The Scor na Nog finals took place last weekend and even though there were a lot of other events on, An Bhoth has good representation on both nights. On Thursday 7th in Latton our club had two teams entered in the quiz which attracted agreat turnout of nineteen teams. After eight rounds of questions in table quiz format, the top three teams then went in to four rounds of individual questions. At this stage Scotstown senior team of Eanna McCarey, Conn Deery, Conor McMeel and James Mullen lead the way with our junior team of Catherine Meehan, Daithi Og McCague, Padraig McDwyer and Harry Casey an excellent joint second with the Harps. Seans were in fourth position. After the individual rounds, Scotstown senior team were declared winners and will represent Club and County in the Scor Ulster quiz final in Silverbridge Armagh on Saturday November 30th. Congratulations and best wishes to the team and mentors Brenda McCarey and Theresa Mohan. Special mention to a very young junior who defied the odds to come a very credible second. Without question, a bright future ahead. (No pun intended).

At the stage events in Clontibret on Saturday 9th, our club were represented by Emma McKenna in recitation. This former Spraoi Scor double winner, reciting "Three little Pigs" lost out to Connie Corrigan, Truagh in a strong Competition. No doubt we will hear Emma again on stage. In instrumental music, our team of Cassie McCormack, Accordian. Kaoimhe Treanor. Flute Katie Cusack. Keyboard Jake Corrigan. banjo and Mia Corrigan. fiddle despite giving excellent renditions of two locally composed tunes lost out to a Harps team that retained the crown they won last year. Their tutors, Patricia Cosgrove and Nicola Cusack and parents can be so proud of this talented band. Cultural officer Paddy Sherlock and committee, Ciara Connolly, Frankie McCarey, and Pauline Rooney wish to thank all who helped to make the weekend a successful one, especially parents, tutors and teachers and look forward to them representing their club again. Special thanks to County chair,Mici Corrigan and his team on running an excellent weekend of culture. An Bhoth abu.

On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes – 20/01/2026 Monaghan GAA 2025 Awards Night On Saturday night last, the Monaghan GAA Annual Awards 2025 took place in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan. Well done also to Gráinne McElwain for MC duties on the evening. 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their strong run in the Dr. McKenna Cup with an exciting 1-15 to 2-10 semi-final victory over Tyrone on Wednesday evening last in Inniskeen. This result saw Monaghan finish top of Section B and qualify for the McKenna Cup Final, which took place on Saturday last against Donegal in Omagh. While it ended in disappointment with a 2-17 to 0-11 defeat , well done to the team and management on reaching the final and producing a very impressive run throughout the competition. An Bhoth GAA Club Notes 13/01/2026 2026 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Monaghan continued their winning start to 2026 with a 1-17 to 3-8 win against Fermanagh on Sunday last in Castleblayney and finished top of Section B in the McKenna Cup and have qualified for the Semi Final. This Wednesday 14th January Monaghan are playing Tyrone at home in Inniskeen in the Semi Final of the McKenna Cup at 7:30pm. Please note that there are no matchday sales at the venue. You can purchase your tickets for the games in McMahons Centra Scotstown. We wish the team and management the very best. The Scotstown players on the panel are having a well deserved break until the National League commences at the end of the month. Our Condolences It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Eddie McKenna (Hughie). We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his son Dara (Emer) and daughter Grainne (Barry Mc Namee); his much-loved grandchildren, Sheenagh, Caolán, Aoife, Aoibheann, Niall and Darren; his brothers, sisters, bothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, his nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. Eddie was a lifelong supporter of our club and a distinguished community person, who was actively involved in the current redevelopment of St. Mary’s Hall Urbleshanny, where he was chairman of the committee. Last month, Eddie was safely taxiing patrons from the Scotstown complex after the Ulster final night celebrations, a recent example of the immense community work Eddie devoted, and he will be greatly missed by everyone in the community and beyond. Health and Wellbeing Scotstown GAA will continue in 2026 with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. During last year we held several wellbeing events including a charity fun / walk which took place on St. Brigid’s weekend, daffodil planting in Kilmore to commemorate National Daffodil day for the Irish Cancer Society, and the GAA for All initiative which took place during May and June. On the first weekend of August we had the post Blessing of the Graves refreshments event in the complex. In September the club has been officially awarded the prestigious Gold status as part of the Healthy Club Recognition programme for 2025 and we recently had the return of the card nights. Make Your Ceili returns this winter with the recent launch. Couch to 5km! Well done to everyone who braved the wet morning and took part in Week 1 of the Gaelic for Mothers & Others Couch to 5km challenge! It was fantastic to see such a great turnout. Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge 2026 The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge is back for the 7th year for one of Ireland’s biggest walking challenges, bringing clubs and communities together. Kicking off on 7th January 2026 – participants are asked to track a combined 4000km over 5 weeks up until 11th February. Any club hitting the 4000km on the finish date will be entered into a draw to win a share of €30,000 funding for their club. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details.
