The first game in the U-13 Boys Div 6 league saw Carrickmacross Emmets visit Kilmore on May Bank Holiday Sunday morning. Taking advantage of a strong breeze, the Emmets started the game the stronger of the two sides. The Blues defence, which included Daithí Keenan, Nathan Treanor, Harry Casey, and Jack Corrigan, was tested early on, but they held firm. Against the run of play Scotstown raised a green flag – Emmet McDonald excently placed shot finding the back of the Carrick net. Sustained pressure from the Emmets eventually led to three quick points in succession. Scotstown determined not to let the game slip away from them, battled hard to keep them at bay. Ciaran McKenna, in goals for Scotstown, made a couple of crucial saves to keep the game alive. Half Time the score was level Scotstown 1-0 to Carrickmacross 0-3 As the second half got underway, Scotstown came out with a renewed energy and determination. Joshua Lawrence, Bobby McGloin and Harry Casey took control of the middle third, and provided the forwards with a constant supply of the football. Thomas Murray, Jamie Moen, Emmet McDonald, and Jamie Beggan were the beneficiaries of this, scoring some much-needed scores and enabling Scotstown to take the lead in an entertaining contest. Nathan Treanor, Daithi Keenan, Jack Corrigan, Fiachra Connolly worked tirelessly in defence to prevent Carrickmacross from getting a foothold in the game in the second half. Ryan McPhillips introduction helped Scotstown to maintain their lead as the Emmets tried to stage their own comeback. In the end, Scotstowns' hard work and persistence paid off as they emerged victorious, winning the game 3-5 to 07. This was an entertaining game of football, with both sides giving it their all. The young players showed great skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the game.
